3 Foreign Films I Want To See

South Korean film The ChaserBrowsing around blogs and sites I always find stuff I am interested to see, some I am glad I saw and others not so, although I don’t always see every film I’d like, well not straight away as I always have so much to watch, but it’s always nice to have things to see and keep an eye out for. Here are 3 foreign films I am interested in seeing, whether I do or not will depend on time and the others things I need to watch, but hopefully I will catch them sometime.

South Korean movie EpitaphEpitaph - This is a South Korean horror film set in a hospital from what I have read and gathered it has 3 stories within the film and has very slow build up that needs re-watchings to fully understand it, quite a thought provoking film by all accounts. I am very interested to see this, sure I expect some of the same ol Asian film cliches but I like films where I have to think after and it takes its time in its build up. Of course, this isn’t to everyone’s tastes, lot’s of people don’t like slow build ups and find it boring and don’t want to think too much and get confused, but I’m not one of them, I like films that require re-watchings to fully understand it. It has been compared to A Tale Of Two Sisters in terms of the confusion people get from the film (From what I have read, another film some people thought was confusing and boring), but it’s a film I like so I will try my best to check this out sometime. South Korean film The ChaserThe Chaser - South Korean serial killer film about an ex police officer who is now a pimp whose girls keep getting killed. During the film the killer gets arrested and then the police have 12 hours to find evidence against him. I am led to believe there is quite a few twists and turns in this film and it looks pretty decent to me, simple enough plot line but one that delivers on the tension and twists from what people are saying. Spanish film The OrphanageOrfanato, El - aka The Orphanage, is a Spanish horror film that I have been reading excellent things about and it seems to be more of a psychological horror. Someone described it as The Shining meets The Others and another compared it to films like The Haunting and The Changeling, a sort of old fashioned type horror film . Again this seems like another film with lots of twists and turns, it is about a woman going back to run the orphanage she used to reside in only to have her kid go missing. It does seem like it has a ‘been there and seen it many times before’ type feel to it, but with all the good reviews I am reading I am going to give it a shot sometime anyway, probably. [Trailer]

  • Have you seen any of these films? What did you think of them?

  1. The Orphanage was really quite a good film, although throughout the film, I felt no empathy for the main protagonist all the way through. Despite all her toils, I wanted her to fail, just so I could see her continuing downward spiral. I’m not sure if this was intentional, but it didn’t spoil the film, but allowed me to view it from a more detached perspective.
Some of the imagery is very good and there are some honestly scary moments in the film. From the beginning to the end I was completely engaged, even if I didn’t care what happened to the characters.

  2. Sounds good, thanks for the post.

I am gonna go into this with pretty high expectations so hopefully I haven’t raised them too much, I NEARLY bought it the other day but the DVD was a bit expensive, least where I looked, so I will wait for it to come down in price a bit.

  3. Especially would like to purchase, “Epitaph” but at the moment
it is very expensive at this stage all over the net, have already got a copy of “The Orhanage” a few weeks ago not too bad.
Although the reviews of the second film were excellent, i found the first half a little boring, but it does improve later on.
