Browsing around I came across news of 3 sequels that may or may not be getting made, a Donnie Darko sequel, a School Of Rock sequel, and another Beverly Hills Cop movie, does anyone want to see these films? They seem to just be more cash in on the previous movie(s) fame rather than a sequel that is needed. But with Hollywood remaking loads of stuff and churning out more and more sequels, just how stale are things?
On the Donnie Darko sequel:
S. Darko
is being shopped around, with Fox already picking up the North American
distribution rights. Touted as the sequel to the 2001 cult hit, the
story picks up seven years after Donnie Darko left off. The
youngest Darko, Samantha, is now 18 and abandoning her commitment to
Sparkle Motion. She heads to Las Vegas with her best friend Corey, but
the two are plagued with bizarre visions. I imagine they will involve a
rabbit.
Richard Kelly, the original director, is in no way involved. Chris Fisher will direct instead. Davleigh Chase,
who played Samantha in the original, will reprise her role. It looks
like she is the only one. The movie also stars Ed Westwick, Briana
Evigan, and Justin Chatwin.
Next up is maybe a School Of Rock sequel, um, no thanks! The first one was alright, funny in parts and a great soundtrack, but another one?
Something in the water over in France has got Jack Black loose-lipped. First he lets it out that Angelina is indeed having twins. Now, according to film-industry.biz, he’s claiming there’s a sequel to School of Rock in the works. There’s even a script already written, and Black is anxious to return to the role of music teacher Dewey Finn. But it’s not a done deal just yet. As he explained from the Cannes Film Festival: “In a few weeks we have to decide if we go through with the project or not.” - Please don’t.
And it looks like Eddie Murphy is coming back as Axel Foley as well, now these movies are fun and all but another one isn’t needed, is it?
Eddie Murphy is in talks to reprise his role as Axel
Foley for the first time in 14 years. Brett Ratner is in negotations to
direct. The movie will head into production in 2009, with an eye
towards making it a tentpole release for summer 2010.
